Tests of the assimilation of cloud measurements within the ICON global forecasting system based on the MFASIS operator of RTTOV

This report describes tests of feeding satellite cloud observations into ICON, the global weather forecasting system operated by the German national meteorological service. Representing clouds more accurately in the forecast improves predictions of the humid layers of air in which persistent contrails form.

Produced by DWD.
