The humidity analyses and the degree of supersaturation

This report presents the analysis of humidity measurements high in the atmosphere and of how often the air there becomes supersaturated with respect to ice. That condition is what allows a contrail to persist for hours and spread into cirrus cloud, rather than fading within minutes.
